Monbetsu is a city situated in the Okhotsk Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. It is located along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk.
The name Monbetsu originates from the Ainu word "Mopet." In the Japanese language, the suffix "-pet" is interpreted as "-betsu," a naming convention shared by several other cities throughout the Hokkaido region.
