Hokuto

Hokuto is a city located in the center of the Oshima Subprefecture on the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan. It serves as a bedroom community for the neighboring city of Hakodate to its east.

The city was officially formed on February 1, 2006, following the merger of the town of Kamiiso from the Kamiiso District and the town of Ōno from the Kameda District. It is the third city established within the Oshima Subprefecture.

In terms of demographics, Hokuto is the second largest city in the Oshima Subprefecture by population, surpassed only by the city of Hakodate.
