As of January 31, 2026, the city has an estimated population of 20,653 residents living in 7,971 households, resulting in a population density of 81 persons per square kilometer.
The city gained international recognition regarding its infrastructure and public welfare; it was ranked as the ninth-best city globally in a 2007 ranking concerning health and sanitation standards.
