Takahama is a city situated in the central region of Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Covering a total area of 13.11 square kilometers, the city is characterized by a compact layout and a population density of approximately 3,717 persons per square kilometer. As of October 2019, it had an estimated population of 48,736 residents living in 20,500 households.
The city is recognized as a "Hometown of Ceramics" due to its long-standing tradition of manufacturing clay roofing tiles, known as kawara. This heritage is preserved through time-honored ceramic production techniques that have been practiced in the region for generations.
A primary cultural landmark in the city is the Kawara Museum and Library of Takahama City. It is notable for being the only museum in Japan dedicated exclusively to ornate tiles and roof accessories, serving as a central institution for the preservation of the local ceramic craft.
