Champorcher

Italy

Champorcher is a comune (municipality) in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy. It is the main town of the Champorcher Valley, the alpine valley that takes its name from the settlement.

The comune sits in the Graian Alps area of the Aosta Valley, a largely mountainous, bilingual region bordering France and Switzerland. As the principal centre of its valley, Champorcher serves as the reference point for the surrounding hamlets and slopes rather than as a large urban centre.

Its position in the upper reaches of the valley places it among the higher-altitude settlements of the region, with a landscape shaped by alpine terrain. The town is the valley's administrative and traditional focal point, and its name is used both for the comune and for the valley it heads.
