Avise is a town and comune in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy. It is one of the small municipalities that make up this mountainous, largely French-speaking alpine region, which borders France and Switzerland.
The comune is situated in the valley of the Dora Baltea, the river that runs through the Aosta Valley from the Mont Blanc massif toward the Po plain. Like other settlements in the region, it lies among the Alpine peaks and slopes that define the area's geography.
Avise is a minor administrative centre rather than a large urban destination, and it shares the cultural and linguistic character of the wider Aosta Valley, where Italian and French are both used.
