Nicosia is a comune (municipality) in the province of Enna in the Italian region of Sicily. The town sits at 720 metres above sea level on a rocky massif featuring four imposing hills. It shares its name with the capital of Cyprus, but is a distinct settlement in central Sicily.
The origins of Nicosia are uncertain. The town and nearby Troina are the northernmost municipalities in Enna province. Historically, the surrounding area was characterized by salt mines and arable farmland, which formed the basis of the local economy.
