Santino is a small town in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It is situated in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in the hilly terrain near the western shore of Lake Maggiore, roughly 20 kilometres north of Verbania and close to the Swiss border. The settlement sits at an elevation of several hundred metres and is surrounded by wooded slopes typical of the pre-Alpine landscape.
Like many communities in this part of Piedmont, Santino is a quiet, sparsely populated village whose economy has historically been based on agriculture and forestry, with some residents commuting to larger nearby towns. Its architecture reflects the traditional style of the region, including stone houses and a small parish church. The area is known for its mild climate and views toward the lake and surrounding mountains.
Santino should not be confused with the Italian given name of the same spelling, which is a diminutive of Santo and is common in Italy, Argentina, and the United States. The town itself remains relatively unknown outside the immediate region and is not a major tourist destination.
