Aquilonia

Italy

Aquilonia is a town and comune in the province of Avellino, in the Campania region of southern Italy. It is located in the eastern part of the province, in mountainous terrain, at an elevation of 750 metres (2,460 ft) above sea level.

The comune is one of several small settlements scattered across the mountainous interior of Irpinia, the historic district corresponding roughly to the modern province of Avellino. Its position at 750 metres places it well above the surrounding valley floors, in terrain typical of the eastern Avellino area.

Aquilonia is administratively a comune, the basic unit of local government in Italy, and forms part of the Campania region of southern Italy. It should not be confused with other places bearing the same name.
