Amato is a comune and town in the province of Catanzaro, in the Calabria region of southern Italy. It is one of the Arbëreshë communities of Italy, settlements founded by Albanian-speaking populations who migrated to the country, chiefly during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
The town is located inland in the province of Catanzaro, the provincial capital of which lies to the south. As an Arbëreshë comune, Amato belongs to the group of Calabrian towns where the Arbëresh language and Albanian cultural traditions have historically been maintained alongside Italian.
Its identity as an Arbëreshë settlement is the characteristic most commonly associated with the town, distinguishing it within the wider context of Calabrian municipalities.
