Ashta is a city and municipal council located in the Sangli district of Maharashtra, India. Situated at coordinates 16.95°N 74.4°E, the city sits at an average elevation of 567 metres (1,860 ft) above sea level.
The name "Ashta" is derived from a local legend stating that Lord Shri Ram established eight (Asht) temples dedicated to Lord Mahadev in this region. The municipal council governs the city, which is divided into 19 wards for elections held every five years.
According to the 2011 Census India report, the Ashta Municipal Council has a population of 37,105 residents. This population consists of 19,171 males and 17,934 females.
