Mansfield is a market town and administrative centre of Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. Located in the Maun Valley approximately 12 miles north of Nottingham, it is the second largest settlement in Nottinghamshire after the city of Nottingham itself. The town received its Royal Charter as a market town from Henry III in 1227, establishing its status as a commercial centre that has persisted for nearly eight centuries.
The Mansfield District had a population of 110,500 at the 2021 census. The town is unique among local authorities in Nottinghamshire in having a publicly elected mayor, known as the Mayor of Mansfield. Historically, Mansfield became the pre-eminent town amongst the settlements of Sherwood Forest during ancient times, reflecting its significance in the wider region.
