Ipswich is a port town and borough located in Suffolk, England, situated on the Orwell river. As the county town of Suffolk, it is the largest settlement in the county, followed by Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds. The city is positioned approximately 65 miles (105 kilometers) northeast of London and ranks as the third-largest population centre in East Anglia, after Peterborough and Norwich.

According to the 2011 census, Ipswich had a population of 144,957. The broader Ipswich built-up area is the fourth-largest in the East of England region and the 42nd-largest in England and Wales overall. This urban area encompasses the surrounding towns and villages of Kesgrave, Woodbridge, Bramford, and Martlesham Heath.
