Dover is a town and civil parish in Kent, England, located in the southeastern part of the county. It serves as the administrative centre of Dover District and is situated on the coast facing France across the Strait of Dover, the narrowest section of the English Channel at approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from Cap Gris-Nez in France. The town lies southeast of Canterbury and east of Maidstone.
Dover is home to the Port of Dover, a major ferry port that connects England to continental Europe. As such, it functions as one of England's principal gateways for cross-Channel traffic and passenger transport. The town had an estimated population of 44,209 in 2024.
