Salla is a municipality located in the Lapland region of Finland. Formerly known as Kuolajärvi until 1936, the area is characterized by its vast geographical scale and low population density.
The municipality covers a total area of 5,873.08 square kilometres, of which 142.73 square kilometres consists of water. As of December 31, 2025, the population is recorded at 3,231 residents, resulting in a population density of approximately 0.56 inhabitants per square kilometre.
