Perna

Finland

Perna (Swedish: Pernå) is a former municipality in Finland, located in the Uusimaa region on the country's southern coast. It was consolidated into the neighbouring municipality of Loviisa, and Perna is now a district of that town rather than an independent administrative unit.

The area is historically Swedish-speaking, and the name Pernå remains in common use alongside the Finnish form Perna. It lies along the Gulf of Finland, and its coastal setting has long been associated with fishing and agriculture.

Among its notable features is the medieval stone church of Pernå, dedicated to Saint Michael, which dates from the fifteenth century and is one of the best-preserved medieval churches in the region. The surrounding countryside retains a number of historic manor houses and estates.
