Wenago

Ethiopia

Wenago is a town and woreda (district) in the Gedeo Zone of southern Ethiopia. It lies in what is now administratively part of the South Ethiopia Regional State, the successor to the former Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. The town of Wenago serves as the administrative centre of the woreda that shares its name.

The woreda of Wenago is bordered on the southwest by Yirgachefe, on the northwest by the Oromia Region, on the northeast by Dila Zuria, and on the southeast by Bule. The town of Dila, together with the surrounding Dila Zuria woreda, was at one point separated from Wenago, leaving Wenago with its present boundaries.

Wenago sits within the Gedeo Zone, an area of southern Ethiopia known for its densely settled highlands and coffee cultivation. The town is one of several settlements in the zone, alongside places such as Yirgachefe, Dila, and Bule.
