Sant Joan d'Alacant, also known as Sant Joan in Valencian, is a town and municipality located in the southeast of the Valencian Community in Spain. It is situated within the Alicante metropolitan area and serves as the geographic center of the Old Garden of Alicante. The municipality shares fire department and metro services with the neighboring city of Alicante.
The territory of Sant Joan d'Alacant borders the settled areas of Alicante, Mutxamel, and El Campello. It is composed of two primary zones: the town of Sant Joan and Benimagrell, which have been joined through urban expansion. The local population has grown due to its role as a bedroom community, its relative isolation from tourist zones, and its involvement in cultural and academic activities. Additionally, the municipality hosts part of the campus for the University Miguel Hernández of Elche.
