Montesa is a municipality in the Valencian Community of eastern Spain. It lies within the comarca of Costera, in the province of Valencia.
Like other towns in the Costera district, Montesa sits in an inland part of the province, away from the coastal plain around the city of Valencia. The comarca is centred on the town of Xàtiva, and Montesa is one of the smaller municipalities within it.
Montesa is best known for the castle that stands above the town, a fortress associated with the medieval Order of Montesa, the military order founded in the early fourteenth century and named after the place. The town gives its name to that order, which played a role in the history of the Kingdom of Valencia after the dissolution of the Knights Templar.
