Alpuente is a town and municipality in the province of Valencia, within the Valencian Community of eastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Los Serranos, in the mountainous interior northwest of the city of Valencia.
The municipality covers a large, sparsely populated rural area made up of numerous small villages and hamlets scattered across rugged terrain. Its historic centre preserves the remains of a hilltop castle, which served as a defensive stronghold during the period of Muslim rule on the Iberian Peninsula before the region was incorporated into the Kingdom of Valencia.
Alpuente is known for its medieval heritage and its setting among limestone hills and gorges, features that shape both its landscape and its traditional economy, which has long centred on agriculture and livestock.
