Getaria

Spain

Getaria is a town on the Urola coast in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. It sits on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, bordering Zarautz to the east and Zumaia to the west.

The town is part of the Urola coast, a stretch of the Basque shoreline between the towns of Zumaia and Zarautz. Its position on this coast places it within the broader coastal area of Gipuzkoa, one of the three provinces that make up the Basque Country.

Getaria is also known as the birthplace of the fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga, and the town is home to a museum dedicated to him. Its historic centre sits on a small peninsula, with the Church of San Salvador located at its highest point.
