Elgeta is a town in the province of Gipuzkoa, within the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. It lies in the mountainous interior of Gipuzkoa, near the border with the neighbouring province of Bizkaia, and forms part of the Debagoiena comarca.
The settlement sits on high ground at the foot of the Udalaitz massif, a prominent limestone peak that rises above the surrounding valleys and is a defining feature of the local landscape. Its elevated position has historically given it a strategic role on the routes linking the coastal and inland areas of the region.
Like other towns in the Basque Country, Elgeta has a strong Basque cultural identity, and both Basque and Spanish are spoken there. It is a small municipality, and its economy has traditionally been tied to agriculture and forestry, with some small-scale industry in the surrounding area.
