Aretxabaleta is a town in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. It lies in the Debagoiena district of the province, within the mountainous interior of the Basque Country rather than on the coast.
The town sits in the upper Deba valley, close to the neighbouring towns of Arrasate-Mondragón, Eskoriatza and Oñati. This part of Gipuzkoa is characterised by green, hilly terrain and a strong industrial tradition alongside its rural surroundings.
Aretxabaleta is one of the smaller municipalities of the Debagoiena area, and like other towns in the region it has a distinct Basque identity, reflected in its official Basque-language name and in the everyday use of the Basque language.
