Betanzos is a municipality located in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain. It situated within the province of A Coruña and belongs to the comarca of Betanzos.
The settlement has a long history dating back to Roman times, when it was referred to as Flauvium Brigantium or Brigantium. However, this historical naming is disputed by many historians and the neighboring town of A Coruña. During the Medieval period, the settlement was known as Carunio.
