Villanueva del Fresno is a town in Badajoz Province, in the Extremadura region of Spain. It is one of the municipalities that make up this western Spanish province, which borders Portugal.
As a municipality of Badajoz Province, it forms part of the autonomous community of Extremadura, the large region of southwestern Spain that also includes the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz. The area lies close to the Portuguese frontier, a characteristic it shares with many other towns in this part of the province.
