Santa Amalia is a municipality in the province of Badajoz, in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. It is located in the western part of the country, within the Guadiana river basin that characterizes much of this region.
According to the 2018 census conducted by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), the municipality had a population of 4,059 inhabitants. This makes it a small town typical of the rural municipalities that dot the Extremaduran countryside.
Like many settlements in Badajoz province, Santa Amalia is part of an area shaped by agriculture and the traditional land-use patterns of southern Extremadura. The town's modest size and its position within one of Spain's less densely populated regions define much of its character.
