Maire de Castroponce is a municipality in the province of Zamora, within the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. It is a small rural settlement in the northwestern part of the country, in a region characterised by an inland, continental climate and a landscape of open farmland and scattered villages.
The municipality is sparsely populated. According to the 2004 census carried out by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), Maire de Castroponce had a population of 230 inhabitants. As with many villages in this part of Castile and León, its population is small and its administrative functions are those typical of a Spanish municipality, covering the settlement and its surrounding municipal territory.
Its location in the province of Zamora places it within one of Spain's largest provinces by area, bordering Portugal to the west, and within a region known for its historic towns, Romanesque churches and agricultural economy. Maire de Castroponce itself remains a minor, low-profile municipality whose significance is chiefly local and administrative.
