Cubillas de Cerrato

Spain

Cubillas de Cerrato is a municipality in the province of Palencia, within the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. It lies in the Cerrato district, a comarca of the central Iberian plateau whose name derives from the Spanish word for a hill or ridge.

The municipality is small and sparsely populated. According to the 2004 census carried out by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), it had a population of 77 inhabitants. Like many rural settlements in this part of Castile and León, it is characterised by a low and dispersed population rather than by urban development.

Its administrative status is that of a municipality, the basic unit of local government in Spain, which means it has its own local council despite its very small size. The surrounding area forms part of the wider Cerrato landscape of the Palencia province.
