Bretó is a municipality in Spain, located in the province of Zamora within the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It lies in the northwestern part of the country, in a region characterised by a sparse, rural settlement pattern typical of much of interior Castilla y León.
The municipality is small in population: according to the 2009 census conducted by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), Bretó had 212 inhabitants. As with many villages in this part of Zamora, its population is distributed across a compact settlement surrounded by open countryside.
Bretó is administered as a municipality, the basic unit of local government in Spain, which makes it responsible for the provision of local services to its residents. Its status within the province of Zamora places it under the broader administrative framework of Castilla y León.
