Aldeadavila de la Ribera

Spain

Aldeadávila de la Ribera is a village and municipality in the north-west of the province of Salamanca, in western Spain. It forms part of the autonomous community of Castile and León.

The settlement lies in the Arribes del Duero area, a landscape shaped by the deep gorge of the Douro River, which here forms part of the border between Spain and Portugal. The surrounding terrain is characterised by steep river cliffs and terraced slopes.

The municipality is known for the Aldeadávila Dam, a large hydroelectric installation on the Douro that is one of the most powerful in Spain. The dam and the dramatic river gorge are among the area's principal features.
