Cañizar is a municipality in the province of Guadalajara, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It is a small rural settlement in the interior of the Iberian Peninsula, within the comarca of La Alcarria, a region known for its rolling hills, cereal fields, and honey production.
According to the 2011 census published by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), the municipality had a population of 84 inhabitants. Like many villages in sparsely populated rural Castile-La Mancha, Cañizar has experienced significant depopulation over the twentieth century as residents moved to larger cities for work.
The village is centred on a small historic core typical of the region, with traditional stone and whitewashed buildings and a parish church. Its economy has historically been based on agriculture, particularly dryland farming of cereals, olives, and sunflowers, along with livestock. Cañizar lies within easy reach of the provincial capital, Guadalajara, and the historic town of Sigüenza, both of which serve as local administrative and cultural centres.
