Jaca is a city located in northeastern Spain within the province of Huesca. Situated near the Pyrenees mountains and the border with France, the city sits on the Aragón River at the intersection of two significant early medieval routes: one connecting Toulouse to Santiago de Compostela and another linking Pau to Zaragoza.
Historically, Jaca served as an ancient fort and was the seat from which the County and Kingdom of Aragon developed. It functioned as the capital of Jacetania and remained the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragon until 1096.
