Calcena is a municipality in the province of Zaragoza, in the Aragon region of northeastern Spain. It lies within the comarca of Aranda, in the foothills of the Iberian System, a mountainous area that shapes the character of the surrounding landscape.
The municipality is small and sparsely populated, with a 2004 census (INE) recording 69 inhabitants. Like many villages in this part of rural Aragon, it has seen its population decline over the twentieth century as residents moved to larger cities.
Calcena is known for its setting among limestone hills and for the nearby Monasterio de Piedra, a Cistercian monastery founded in the thirteenth century, which lies a short distance to the south and is a notable visitor attraction in the region.
