Alpeñés is a municipality in the province of Teruel, in the Aragon region of Spain. It is a small, sparsely populated settlement located in the rugged terrain of this part of northeastern Spain.
According to the 2018 census carried out by Spain's national statistics institute (INE), the municipality had a population of just 22 inhabitants. This makes it one of the many very small municipalities that characterise the rural interior of the province of Teruel.
Its status as a municipality means it has its own local administrative identity within the province, despite its very small population. The surrounding province of Teruel is known for its mountainous landscapes and low population density, and Alpeñés sits within that broader rural context.
