Purchena is a small town in the province of Almería, in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. It lies at the foot of the Sierra de los Filabres, in the middle of the Almanzora River Valley.
The town is surrounded by woods that ascend towards the mountains. This wooded setting contrasts with the rest of the municipalities in the area, which are set in much more arid surroundings.
