Jimena

Spain

Jimena is a municipality in the province of Jaén, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain. It lies within the comarca (district) of Sierra Mágina, in the northern part of the province.

According to the National Statistics Institute of Spain (INE), Jimena had a population of 1,489 inhabitants in 2007. The town is one of the smaller municipalities in the province, whose capital is the city of Jaén.

As with other settlements in the Sierra Mágina area, Jimena's setting is shaped by the surrounding mountainous terrain of northern Jaén, a region historically associated with olive cultivation. The town shares its name with other places in Spain and abroad, but this Jimena is the municipality located in Andalusia.
