Instinción is a municipality in the province of Almería, within the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is one of the small inland settlements that make up the Alpujarra Almeriense comarca, a mountainous area on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada range.
Like other municipalities in the province, it is administered as a local entity under Spain's system of municipal government, with its own town council. The surrounding landscape is characterised by the terraced hillsides and whitewashed villages typical of the Alpujarras, a region shaped by centuries of irrigation-based agriculture.
The municipality lies in the eastern part of Andalusia, relatively close to the provincial capital, also named Almería, and to the Mediterranean coast. Its setting in the Alpujarra hills gives it a distinct inland character compared with the coastal resorts of the province.
