Chercos

Spain

Chercos is a municipality in the province of Almería, within the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is one of the small settlements of the Almanzora comarca, a predominantly rural area of the province.

The original village lies about three kilometres south of modern-day Chercos, clinging to the side of the Sierra de los Filabres. This mountain range forms part of the broader Baetic system that runs across Andalusia, and its slopes define the terrain around the municipality.

Chercos shares the administrative and geographic characteristics common to the municipalities of Almería province, whose capital city of the same name lies to the south. The present-day settlement and the older village site together reflect the pattern of small, elevated communities found in the Sierra de los Filabres area.
