Belalcazar

Spain

Belalcázar is a municipality and city in the province of Córdoba, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain. It lies in the northern part of the province, within the comarca of Los Pedroches.

The town is situated approximately 100 kilometres from the city of Córdoba, the provincial capital. It is one of several municipalities that make up the sparsely populated Los Pedroches region, an area of dehesa landscapes on the southern edge of the Sierra Morena.

Belalcázar is best known for its castle, the Castillo de Belalcázar, also called the Castillo de los Sotomayor y Zúñiga, whose tall keep is a prominent landmark of the area. The town shares its name with other places in Spain and Latin America, but this Belalcázar is the Andalusian municipality in Córdoba province.
