Arenas del Rey

Spain

Arenas del Rey is a village in the province of Granada, in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. It is a small municipality located in the comarca of Alhama, in the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara, roughly 50 kilometres from the provincial capital, Granada.

According to the 2006 census (INE), the village had a population of 1,231 inhabitants. The surrounding area is characterised by rugged mountain terrain, with the village sitting close to the Embalse de los Bermejales reservoir, a feature of the local landscape.

Like many settlements in this part of Granada, Arenas del Rey has a history tied to the region's Moorish past and later Christian resettlement, though it remains a quiet, rural community rather than a major tourist destination.
