Saro

Spain

Saro is a municipality in the autonomous community of Cantabria, in northern Spain. It is one of the small municipalities that make up the Cantabrian interior, a region of green hills and valleys between the Cantabrian Sea and the mountains of the Cordillera Cantábrica.

Like other municipalities in Cantabria, Saro is a rural administrative unit that typically comprises a main village together with scattered hamlets and farmsteads rather than a single dense urban centre. Cantabria as a whole is known for its Atlantic climate, with mild temperatures and frequent rainfall, which supports the pastureland and livestock farming characteristic of much of the region's countryside.

Saro shares its name with a number of other places in the Spanish-speaking world, but the municipality described here is the one located in Cantabria. It lies within the comarca of the Valles Pasiegos, an area of Cantabria traditionally associated with seasonal livestock movement and pastoral farming.
