Escalante is a municipality in the autonomous community of Cantabria, in northern Spain. It is one of the smaller municipalities of the region, situated in the coastal province of Cantabria on Spain's northern coast.
According to the 2007 census, Escalante had a population of 749 inhabitants. The municipality is one of many small, sparsely populated administrative units that make up rural Cantabria.
