Cartes is a municipality in the autonomous community of Cantabria, in northern Spain. It lies inland in the Besaya valley area of the region, near the town of Torrelavega.
According to the 2009 census, the municipality had a population of 5,118 inhabitants. It is one of the smaller municipalities of Cantabria, a region made up of numerous such local councils.
