Zugarramurdi

Spain

Zugarramurdi is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. It lies in the Basque cultural area of Navarre, close to the French border.

The town is known for its association with alleged occult activity, which gave it a place in history as the setting featured in the Basque witch trials held in Logroño during the seventeenth century. It is home to the Basque witch museum and the Witch Caves.

Each year, fires are lit in the caves near Zugarramurdi to mark the "day of the witch" on the summer solstice.
