Viana

Spain

Viana is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. It lies in the Ebro valley region of Navarre, near the border with the neighbouring autonomous community of La Rioja.

The town is historically notable as the burial place of Cesare Borgia, the Renaissance nobleman, cardinal and military commander, who died in 1507 near Viana and was interred in the town. His tomb is located in the Church of Santa María.

Viana is also known for its historic old town, which preserves medieval and Renaissance buildings, town walls and gates, and a pilgrimage route connection on the Camino de Santiago.
