Salinas de Oro

Spain

Salinas de Oro (Basque: Jaitz) is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. It is situated in the foothills of the western Pyrenees, in the north of the Iberian Peninsula.

The municipality is known by two official names, reflecting Navarre's bilingual character: the Spanish form Salinas de Oro and the Basque form Jaitz. Its name derives from the salt springs that were historically worked in the area, which gave the settlement its early economic importance.

Like much of rural Navarre, Salinas de Oro is a small municipality centred on its historic core, surrounded by the agricultural landscape typical of the region. It lies within the broader cultural and administrative framework of Navarre, an autonomous community whose capital is Pamplona.
