Monteagudo

Spain

Monteagudo is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. It lies within the Ebro valley area of the region, near the border with the neighbouring autonomous community of La Rioja.

The municipality recorded a population of 1,146 inhabitants at the 2006 census, according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE). Like many settlements in rural Navarre, it is a small, compact community whose administrative status covers both the town itself and the surrounding municipal territory.

Monteagudo is one of a number of municipalities that make up the southern part of Navarre, a zone historically shaped by agriculture and by its position along routes linking the Ebro valley with the rest of the region. The town shares its name with several other places in the Spanish-speaking world, but it is distinct from them as a Navarrese municipality.
