Abanilla is a municipality in Spain, located in the Comarca Oriental within the Autonomous Community of Murcia. It lies close to the border of the province of Alicante, which forms part of the neighbouring Autonomous Community of Valencia.
Its position in the Comarca Oriental places it in the eastern part of the Murcia region, near where that region meets the Valencian Community. The proximity to the Alicante provincial border is one of the defining geographical features of the municipality.
