Villavelayo is a village and municipality in the province and autonomous community of La Rioja, in northern Spain. It is located in the mountainous south-western part of the region, near the border with the province of Burgos.
The municipality covers an area of 89.07 square kilometres (34.39 square miles), making it large in extent relative to its population. As of 2011, it had a population of 56 people, reflecting the sparse settlement typical of this upland area of La Rioja.
