Berceo

Spain

Berceo is a municipality in the La Rioja region of northern Spain. It lies near the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla, a historic religious site in the same area.

The village is known as the birthplace of Gonzalo de Berceo, the medieval poet and cleric associated with the monastery of San Millán. It has also been proposed as the identification of the historic place called Vergegio, named by Braulio of Zaragoza as the birthplace of Saint Millán, though present-day Berdejo in Aragon is another candidate for that identification.
